Halo is a first-person action game franchise developed by Bungie Studios for the Microsoft XBOX console. Since the release of the very first video game in the series, Halo's popularity has exploded, pushing it's way to the top of gaming best-seller lists. Why? Each entry in the series has been amongst the best shooters ever developed. As gaming collectibles go, Halo figures have become hot items for many people.
The player's character, Master Chief, is at the forefront of the near-apocalyptic action. Master Chief is a genetically and cybernetically enhanced super soldier, trained beyond the peak of human ability. Another playable character, The Arbiter, is an exile from the alien Covenant, and fights alongside the human forces. Another main character is Cortana, an highly sophisticated computer intelligence with a female personality. The player also fights alongside human military forces, some of whom become central to the story.
The Master Chief battles against two different types of alien forces. One is an alliance of different aliens called the Covenant, who are led on an apocalyptic religious mission to cleanse the galaxy. The second major alien force is called the Flood. The Flood is composed of trillions of tiny parasitic lifeforms and insects controlled by a single collective intelligence, which is named Gravemind. The Flood's tiny minions attack and turn lifeforms (like humans and the Covenant) into walking carriers and shock troops.
Each player and fan of Halo tends to spend a lot of time playing through the compelling science fiction plot, but also spends a lot of time on the addictive multiplayer game. Halo's multiplayer has a culture all it's own, revolving around the perfection of ones skills and the defeat of online opponents on XBOX-Live. Thus, the players not only become familiar with and attached to the characters and vehicles in Halo, but there are also a significant number of them who like the game enough to purchase memorabilia from it.
Keep in mind that there are many variations on the armor that Master Chief wears on XBOX-live, since each player customizes the shape and color scheme of his iteration of either MC himself or the Arbiter. Thus, like characters from every other science fiction franchise developed in recent times, there is a base of people just waiting to get their hands on the action figures of the vehicles, characters, and, in this case, customized characters.
Cortana is normally palm-sized in the game, so she makes for a great figure. The Arbiter, as another character playable in both single-player and multiplayer, is also very popular amongst the younger crowd. As Halo figures go, though, the die-cast and plastic versions of in-game vehicles are also a very cool gift for a fan of Halo.
