Collecting LEGO Star Wars Playsets The Force Is Strong With This One

Collecting LEGO Star Wars Playsets can be great fun, and since the series' launch in 1999, there are a huge amount of sets available to the avid collector. Ranging across the six films and the Clone Wars cartoon spin-off, the sets cover all your favourite characters, ships and locales. Chances are, if it's in the films, it's in a box!

The LEGO Star Wars range was the first LEGO line to be produced specifically for a movie franchise. The Danish toy company has since dabbled in spin offs for such franchises as Harry Potter, Spiderman, Batman, Jurassic Park and even Indiana Jones, but the sci-fi range remains the highest grossing one of them all, spanning everything from the lowliest Landspeeder to the mighty Millenium Falcon. With such a popular franchise, you can be sure there's a lot to get your hands on.

The beauty of Star Wars, as with any LEGO range, is the sheer freedom it gives you to create your own scenarios and build the Star Wars universe in the way you've always wanted it. The internet hosts many wondrous creations by avid LEGO Star Wars collectors who've taken the spirit and feel of the films and produced amazing models of their own.

It's always worth keeping an eye on the auction sites as LEGO often ends up selling at remarkably low rates in parental attic clearouts. You'll also come across online retailers selling unopened, mint condition sets, but be prepared to pay a little more for this kind of luxury. The original 1999 sets in particular will set you back a sizeable amount, as they have almost all been superseded by newer versions.

Many of the minifigures have also been retired and superseded; the original Obi Wan Kenobi and Luke Skywalker, for example, have been replaced with more modern versions, so these originals are a real rarity if you're serious about collecting.

If you're a committed LEGO Star Wars enthusiast, be sure to check out the excellent and critically acclaimed LEGO Star Wars videogames, available across platforms. These provide great arcade-style pick up and play fun and are best experienced multi player, allowing you to dip in and out of the saga as any character you like in a lovingly rendered world of bricks.

Collecting Star Wars Playsets can be a joy for Jedis young and old. With such a breadth of sets on offer you really can let your imagination go wild. Keep an eye out for rarities and get the full range for the complete Star Wars experience.
